The Ballett Gesellschaft Hannover e.V. has been organizing the ‘International Choreographic Competition Hannover’, which is unique in Europe, for 35 years. During this long period it has become an important factor in the national and international dance landscape. There are many dance competitions, but the ‘International Choreographic Competition Hannover’ is the longest-running choreography competition in the WORLD! The internationality of the applicants – on average, over 300 choreographers from over 50 nations take part – as well as the high-caliber jury show the high status it enjoys in international dance.
Choreographers must have professional training. The age limit for the choreographers is 39 years. The choreography must have a duration of 5-12 minutes and a solo may not be interpreted by the choreographers themselves. The choice of the topic and the music is free. With these few framework conditions, the possibility is created that the competition is open to any stylistic direction. The only evaluation criteria are an imaginative use of space and time, the dance realization of an idea and its transfer to the performers.
For the 35th International Choreography Competition on July 2nd and 3rd, 2021 in Hannover, please submit your application video with the registration form (download) by March 26th, 2021 by mail or email to our office:
